Job Description

Play a pivotal role where your decisions keep operations running smoothly Initial 15 month position, with a strong potential of extension or internal opportunities Mon-Fri position, 38 hr week | Mayfield West location with free parking If this is what you value in a workplace, I’m sure you’re going to fit like a glove as Roster Coordinator/Scheduler. The Role Joining for an initial 15-month position, you’ll take the lead in rostering and scheduling for a team that spans Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. Rosters don’t just appear out of thin air—someone needs to plan ahead, anticipate challenges, and keep everything running smoothly. That someone is you. You'll be at the centre of operations, responsible for live run rosters — ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time. From scheduling weeks and months in advance to fine-tuning rosters to ensure compliance with fatigue management requirements, you’ll be the one making it all happen. Training plans, shutdown schedules, and last-minute changes will land on your desk, and it’ll be up to you to keep everything in order. You’ll liaise with HR to backfill shifts for medicals, training sessions, and maintain strong relationships with rail operations managers who each oversee 90 drivers. Love variety? You'll have variety. Beyond scheduling, you’ll also be the go-to for timesheet validation and payroll accuracy. Your role will also include some data entry and reporting, but it’s all part of the bigger picture —keeping things running without a hitch. Plus, there’s the potential of this role being extended for an extra three months, or landing you other internal opportunities within the company after the end of your engagement. You and Your Alignment You’ve been in the thick of it before—creating rosters and schedules that keep operations on track. Ideally, you’ve worked within the train industry or a similarly complex environment, like fleet scheduling or logistics. You understand the unique challenges of balancing resources, timeframes, and compliance requirements in fast-moving sectors. Experience aligning schedules with enterprise agreements? That’s a bonus. If not, you’ll just need to be a quick learner to ensure both compliance and crew employee wellness in your scheduling. Systems? They don’t scare you. Whether it’s mastering a rostering tool or working with Excel, you’re quick to adapt. And if you’ve validated payroll or worked with scheduling systems before, that’s even better—but don’t stress it if not. Other than skills, what really sets you apart is your mindset. You thrive on collaboration, embrace challenges, and take pride in making decisions that drive real impact. Not 100% sure you tick every box? That’s okay — you’ll receive solid training over the first few months to set you up for success before you fly solo! Next Steps If this sounds like the gig for you, then hit ‘Apply’ now to be considered. Reference Number BH-59751 #J-18808-Ljbffr
