Australian Naval Infrastructure Pty Ltd (ANI) is the owner, developer and manager of the Osborne Naval Shipyards, supporting the Commonwealth’s Naval Shipbuilding Plan. ANI is responsible for designing, constructing and managing the shipyard infrastructure, including the new Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard to support the AUKUS program, and operating and maintaining common use facilities. ANI has an opportunity for an experienced Safety Officer to join its Operations team at Osborne. In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert playing a key role in promoting and maintaining a positive and proactive safety culture across ANI’s operations, and ensuring compliance with WHS laws and ANI’s safety management system. Your key responsibilities will include: Continuous improvement of ANI’s safety management system Ensuring understanding of the requirements of, and adherence to, ANI’s safety management system and relevant regulations and standards Developing and maintaining SWMS, risk registers and safety procedures Onboarding of contractors including monitoring their compliance with WHS requirements Implementation of WHS, quality and environment plans, policies and procedures Assisting in training others and developing their knowledge of relevant safety requirements including facilitating safety inductions for new staff Identifying and assessing hazards, undertaking inspections, audits, incident reporting and initial incident investigations Creating and promoting safety initiatives Active participation in relevant WHS forums / committees Emergency management planning and drills Acting as ANI’s internal return to work coordinator This role will suit a person with experience in a similar role in an industrial environment, with sound knowledge of WHS laws, principles, and systems. You will have strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence positive safety behaviours and outcomes. You will have sound written and verbal communication skills required to develop and communicate safety plans, policies and procedures, prepare reports and maintain accurate records. Specific qualifications in WHS will be well regarded. You will need to be a team player, flexible to undertake a range of tasks and to adapt as ANI continues to grow and develop its nuclear mindset.
