12+12 Month Federal Government Contract NSW (Surrey Hills) or VIC (Richmond or Geelong) No Security Clearance required Key duties and responsibilities The Lead (Actuary) Data Scientist role requires providing leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management, and decision-making for the team membership and assigned contractors working within the Analytics, Data and Actuarial Division of this Federal Government Agency. The position will exercise a considerable degree of independence to engage in very complex problem-solving and issues management within the Actuarial Insights and Monitoring functions. Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to: Overseeing, leading, managing, and taking responsibility for deliverables of data analysis, policy proposal briefs, and key stakeholder management as the assistant director. Producing and communicating detailed technical, professional, and policy advice on complex problems to internal and external stakeholders. Designing statistical, mathematical, and various data science models to conduct analytical work that addresses business issues. Essential criteria: 5+ years of data science experience. Very experienced with complex internal and external stakeholder engagement and management. Demonstrated experience with leadership/management of teams. Strong understanding of advanced modelling techniques and how they fit in a policy landscape. Advanced R & Python programming skills including data manipulation, analysis, and model development/deployment. Demonstrated experience in the application of Artificial Intelligence, including Natural Language Processing (NLP) to extract information and design decision-support systems. Proficient in SQL, accessing databases and data storage systems (e.g., AWS S3). Working knowledge of Generative AI and how it can be used effectively. Working knowledge & understanding of AI Assurance and Governance frameworks relating to the development of ethically sound and safe AI systems.
