Job Description

Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as the recently announced Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, Marvel Studios’ What If…?, Disney Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan. Note: This role is suitable for senior artists with professional experience only. Remote contracts may be possible though applicants in Australia or open to relocation preferred. 2D Character Layout Artists create the framework for the animation team. They are responsible for setting up the shots for Rough Animation by illustrating dynamic, on-model poses based on provided storyboards. Additionally, they must work to, and maintain, the creative and technical requirements for 2D Character Layout and Animation for the Program/s as required by the Animation Supervisor/s and Animation Lead/s; and to the production schedule provided by the Production Company. About the role: Interpret storyboard poses and translate them to strong, dynamic and/or comedic poses as directed by the Animation Supervisor/s and Animation Lead/s. Produce clean and usable key illustrated poses for final animation. Meet quota as briefed by the Production crew. Complete creative revisions as requested by the Animation Supervisor/s and Animation Lead/s in addition to the character layout quota. Adhere to the workflow structure of the project as requested by the Animation Supervisor/s and Animation Lead/s. Work cohesively within a team environment, ensuring high levels of communication at all times. About you: Proven 2D animation industry experience required with character animation experience preferred. Experience in anime animation style a bonus. Good sense of comic book posing, anatomy and forced perspective. A critical eye that can understand the show style as well as what makes an image appealing. An understanding of Toon Boom Harmony in a production-based environment. Solid knowledge of 2D animation workflows and storyboard interpretation. Excellent communication skills and willingness to share information in a team environment. Excellent time management skills. Ability to flag issues that may impact on the successful delivery of assets within the Production schedule. Ability to work to deadlines. Passion for animation and storytelling. What do we do?
