Gyde Consulting is a multi-disciplinary growing team of 45 highly regarded planning, urban design, social planning, communications and analytics specialists operating from offices in Sydney, Newcastle and the Capital Region. We provide services across industry, corporate and government sectors and are engaged in a diverse range of planning, urban design and development studies and projects. About the job We are looking for someone passionate about planning and looking for a change. You would be based in Canberra (or surrounds) and working in a small local collaborative team. You will also have access and contribute to our Sydney and Newcastle teams, resources and projects. We are looking for a qualified planner to join our Capital Region team. While we are open to considering applicants at various levels of experience, there is an expectation that the successful applicant will be able to: Interpret planning legislation and associated laws, regulations, development controls and policies of the ACT Planning Systems (Territory and National Capital). Knowledge of the NSW Planning System (or an interest in learning) would be desirable. Assess the development potential of properties based on the planning framework, including identifying risks and opportunities. Assess and report on the environmental impacts of development proposals. Assist with the preparation of written and oral submissions to ACT Government Departments, Commonwealth Departments, NSW Councils, State Government, as well as local, district and regional planning panels. Liaise with clients, consent authorities, government agencies and other professionals. Collaborate with the GYDE team on business development in the Capital Region. What skills, experience and capabilities are we looking for? Relevant tertiary qualifications in planning or similar. Demonstrated understanding and experience of planning legislation and approvals processes in the ACT is essential. A focus on good planning outcomes and high-quality customer service. Demonstrated understanding and experience of planning legislation and approvals processes in NSW or the Commonwealth is desirable (including development assessment of DAs). Well-developed organisational skills, with an ability to prioritise, implement and complete projects and tasks independently and efficiently. Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint and an ability to learn new systems. Excellent oral and written communication skills, and a professional “can do” attitude. You will be open to working from home and/or from a co-working space in Dickson, with the opportunity to work from our Sydney and Newcastle offices. The potential for a future Capital Region office (in Canberra) is currently being assessed. A continuing professional development allowance, and a paid PIA membership. Access to a parental leave scheme (in addition to general employee entitlements) and paid leave after a set period of service. Travel allowance to Sydney for GYDE team and social events. We are flexible in terms of position (subject to relevant experience and qualifications) and part-time work may be considered, subject to finding the right “fit” for our Capital Region team.
