$80,341 to $87,572 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation Full-time, Ongoing, Non-ongoing Brisbane, QLD Purpose of Position The Associate is part of a team assisting a Judge in the day-to-day management of Chambers and Court. The Associate role is integral in assisting the Judge of a superior Court, including through assisting in the Courtroom and in the management of the Judge’s docket, the management of their Chambers, and supervision of the Legal or Deputy Associate.This is an invaluable opportunity for the successful candidate to obtain experience of the Court system, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Key Responsibilities and Duties Assist in the conduct of Court proceedings, including the transcription of orders, ensuring the orderly conduct of matters and general Courtroom management. Day-to-day running of chambers including responding to enquiries, including, as required, managing the Associate inbox on behalf of the Judge. Supervise the work of a Legal Associate or Deputy Associate. Assist the Judge to manage the docket by preparing and managing matters waiting for hearing. Providing a high level of administrative support to the judicial officer to ensure the prompt distribution of orders and judgments. Entering data accurately into the Court’s case management and other information systems to reflect the workload of the judicial officer. Arrangements for circuit and relief sittings, and attendance at meetings and conferences. Maintain court related relationships with various external stakeholders. Contribute to organisational forums working for better working practices. Other duties as required. Qualifications and Experience Completion of a legal degree or in final year of legal studies is desirable, but not essential.Experience working in a legal environment is desirable, but not essential. Selection Criteria Well-developed interpersonal skills including tact, discretion, initiative, together with a high standard of ethical behaviour. High level communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively with members of the judiciary, the legal profession, the public and other court staff. Organisational and follow-through skills, including attention to detail, time-management skills, the ability to manage priorities and diligence. The ability to work well in a high-paced environment, both as part of a small team and individually. Demonstrated high-level keyboard skills and ability to use relevant software applications including Microsoft Office applications and the internet. Eligibility Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following: Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship. Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment. Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
