Based at our Kerarbury Orchard location , as an Agricultural Leading Hand, you'll play a vital part in maximising crop yields, ensuring efficient use of agricultural technologies, and promoting environmental best practices.The role will see you have variety including: Agricultural Chemicals: Support and promote maximum yield from trees by assisting in developing new methods of fertilising and harvesting. Guarantee the environment protection through the correct practices. Assist in devising methods of control to increase the quality and quantity of crops and create innovative techniques that farm managers can adopt. Promote and contribute to the continuing development of best practice. Planning & Scheduling: Support the farm management team by maintaining farm records and accurately and proactively plan orchard activities and ensure delivery of plans are in accordance with Management Plan and budget. Assist with resourcing and equipment usage against the appropriate lifecycle calendar and environmental cycle. Irrigation: Communicate Orchard Fertiliser program information to relevant staff and contractors. Ensure the timely and efficient delivery of fertilizer across the Orchard as directed by the Irrigation team. Calculate and mix correct chemicals and set proportional dosage system. Start and stop injection system as directed by the irrigation team. Operate the chlorination system safely, turning on and off, setting flow rates and disconnecting/flushing system. Complete field repairs on main lines and pipes as directed by the Irrigation Controller. Repair and position dripper lines as required. Equipment Operation: Ensure all orchard machinery is safely and correctly set up to operate. Demonstrate multitasking abilities in the operation of different equipment and work without causing damage to the equipment, the environment and to the team. Record Keeping: Collect and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of farming activities, including harvesting dates and yields. To be successful for the role you will need to demonstrate: Proven experience in agricultural operations and knowledge in the horticultural sector, with experience working with field personnel. Experience in irrigation desired but not required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Have a ‘duty of care’ mindset when completing tasks. Relevant bachelor qualification highly desired and a current unencumbered driver's licence to be able to drive on public roads.
