Salary: $91,702 - $104,753 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Location: Bungendore - NSW The Role The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer in Joint Operations Command (JOC) is an integral part of the team that supports and influences positive safety outcomes for JOC Group across all of our areas of operations including bilateral and multi-lateral exercises and operations worldwide. The Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer will work under broad direction to perform the role within a Joint and integrated workforce. Responsibilities: Possess knowledge of legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements; Have a demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence; Possess sound decision making and judgement to provide policy advice; Have knowledge and awareness of the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures relevant to the role; Engage in problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that have an impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence; Work within a team to achieve outcomes; Develop processes to ensure that relevant safety data supports the Command and Enterprise level WHS issues; Monitor and report all WHS incidents, near misses and investigations, and update senior personnel in accordance with established escalation and chain-of-command protocols; Actively engage with and promote key stakeholder relationships and identify relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes; Be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area. About our Team JOC Group WHS Directorate is responsible for the employment, management and continual improvement of Joint Operations Work Health and Safety Management Systems. The Directorate operates through planned integration into operations and exercise planning and operation management of WHS as it is contextually tailored for application in high tempo highly complex operating environments domestically and internationally. The WHS Directorate provides expert advice and assurance to JOC Group in meeting and exceeding work health and safety obligations and compliance. The WHS Directorate is responsible for the examination and investigation of WHS incidents and events and management of interactions with relevant regulatory entities. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will be a demonstrated leader with abilities in the following areas: A working knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and practices in a complex shared duty environment; Collaborating with and providing well-structured advice and influencing both internal and external stakeholders; Planning and prioritising work to tight deadlines and monitoring implementation of the work; Drawing appropriate insights from data, reports and analysis; Representing the WHS team at safety related conventions, training and forums; Well-developed writing skills including briefs, reports, papers; Proactive, personable, resilient and organised; Strong ability to work under limited supervision and track the progress of multiple tasks in a fast paced and diverse environment.
