Our team The National Seabed Mapping (NSM) section, in the Oceans, Reefs, Coasts and the Antarctic Branch, is responsible for producing and managing foundational seabed data products to support government priorities, including the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity initiative. The role The Assistant Director – Seabed Data Products will lead a small multi-disciplinary team that coordinates and delivers foundational seabed data products and services, as part of the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity (RAP) initiative. You will oversee delivery of the AusBathyTopo grid series, including prioritising and overseeing the processing and integration of legacy datasets by internal staff and contractors. The role involves working collaboratively with internal and external partners, mentoring team members and communicating effectively in a range of forums. In this role you will: Provide high level hydrographic or bathymetric specialist expertise and expert judgement to lead the development of seabed data products, with bathymetry being the first priority. Take a strategic and collaborative approach to developing a program of work for the development and delivery of seabed data products. Provide leadership and direction to a team of marine geoscientists, ensuring the team remains responsive to organisational priorities. Proactively identify and manage risks associated with delivering products as part of a complex program of work. Engage and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation in the delivery of data products. Contribute as a proactive and inclusive team member who supports the priorities and positive culture of the National Seabed Mapping section. To be successful in the role you will: Understand the strategic objectives of the section, branch and organisation, and develop and implement work plans to provide strategic direction to the work area. Work both independently and collaboratively, while supporting the professional development of team members. Continue to develop your professional knowledge and expertise and encourage colleagues to draw on your expertise. Communicate clearly and succinctly with a high level of impact, both orally and in writing. Foster relationships with new stakeholders considering the future needs and direction of the NSM section and broader organisation. Adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical and professional way. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Qualifications and experience in bathymetry or hydrography are essential. Knowledge of seabed mapping and data management and delivery is essential. Experience in delivery of multidisciplinary projects is essential.
