Details: WorkSafe ACT is a fully independent office headed by the WHS Commissioner. WorkSafe ACT achieves its objectives through a combination of compliance and enforcement, awareness raising, education, inspection, and investigation. It is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance by duty holders in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and associated legislation including dangerous substances, workers’ compensation, and Labour Hire Licensing. We have an exciting temporary vacancy for a suitably skilled professional to fill the role of Assistant Director Strategy. In this role, you will supervise a small team that is responsible for developing evidence-based regulatory strategies for work health and safety, workers’ compensation, and labour hire licensing. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of national and jurisdictional work health and safety issues with the ability to deliver expert advice to the Senior Leadership Team and inspectors on policy and implementation issues for the WHS Act and associated legislation. You will collaborate with external and internal stakeholders, including other WHS regulators and Safe Work Australia, to identify strategic activities and directions that align with WorkSafe ACT’s objectives. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Knowledge of WHS, Workers’ Compensation, and Labour Hire Licensing legislation and issues is highly desirable but not essential. Tertiary qualifications (or partial completion) in a related area are desirable but not essential. Notes: This is a temporary position available for a period of 9 months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. A merit pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill substantially identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on referee reports and written application only. This position has moved to a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers do not have a designated workstation/desk.
