The Inspector General is an independent statutory office holder who reviews the activities of Australia’s intelligence and security agencies to ensure they act legally and with propriety, comply with ministerial guidelines and directives, and respect human rights. The Opportunity The Governance and Coordination team plays a critical role in ensuring the Office has an effective governance framework, engages with stakeholders including the Minister and Parliament, meets a number of legislative requirements under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and has the policies and procedures necessary to meet organisational and strategic objectives. The Governance & Coordination Officer will, under limited direction, work collaboratively in a small team to develop policy, advice and recommendations across a wide range of governance, strategy and policy areas. Key responsibilities of the Governance & Coordination Officer support the Office’s ministerial and parliamentary services, including preparing submissions to Ministers, Senate Estimates briefs, and responses to Questions on Notice develop and manage key governance documents such as the Annual Report and Corporate Plan, and related performance reporting requirements deliver secretariat services for a range of senior committees, including preparing meeting agendas, papers, and correspondence to internal and external stakeholders support the IGIS risk and fraud frameworks including conducting regular reviews, providing advice and reporting to relevant committees assist in the management of the team’s responsibility for the IGIS’s internal public interest disclosure function support internal and external communications, including the OIGIS website and internal communication platforms develop and maintain effective, professional relationships and communicate with influence with a broad range of stakeholders. Desirable skills experience in a governance or corporate role, and a working knowledge of the requirements of the PGPA Act experience in a governance discipline, such as enterprise risk, fraud or internal audit within a Government context experience in the coordination and preparation of parliamentary workflows, including submissions, briefs and packs in support of senior executive engagement with Senate Estimates or other Parliamentary Committees demonstrated experience in providing secretariat support to senior boards or committees, including Audit Committees demonstrated ability to work within a highly sensitive workplace and desire to resolve complex problems. Highly Desirable skills demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills. demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes often working independently against established priorities, practices and methodologies. the ability to build and maintain effective relationships and an ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders. high-level time management skills, and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines and deliver high quality outcomes. a demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and integrity and work effectively in a small team. Eligibility Security, suitability and integrity requirements Positions at IGIS are positions of trust. Appointment to our Office depends on the outcome of an employment suitability assessment. Appointment and ongoing employment at the Office are subject to a Positive Vetting clearance being granted and maintained. Security vetting may take many months to complete and requires candidates to provide significant personal information to the vetting authority. In addition, all IGIS staff are required to make annual conflict of interest declarations to ensure the independence and integrity of the Office. Am I eligible to apply?
