About This Opportunity We're seeking an Assistant Manager Research to join our team at QASP (Queensland Animal Science Precinct). In this role, you'll collaborate closely with the Senior Manager to ensure the seamless execution of various research initiatives within our facilities. From developing and implementing protocols to overseeing day-to-day operations, your contributions will be vital in maintaining the highest standards of research excellence. Key Responsibilities Will Include Manage research trials, including design, setup, conduct, monitoring, and reporting, while developing and maintaining resources, procedures, and protocols for projects in various QASP facilities. Advise researchers on trial terms, conditions, and protocols, assist with Animal Ethics and funding applications, and support research staff and postgraduate students in conducting research within QASP. Oversee and manage QASP research support staff, ensuring proper staffing for research trials and routine operations, including recruitment, induction, training, and development. Assist with preparing the annual budget, quarterly reviews, business plans, facility development, and effective utilization of QASP facilities. Develop strategies for maximum utilisation of QASP facilities, monitor maintenance plans, and implement advanced process and project management protocols. Design and implement a QASP Sustainability Program and ensure high-quality control across all processes. Competence in trials, understanding of animal welfare and ethics policies. Advanced data collection and livestock management capabilities. Familiarity with UQ’s workplace health and safety policies. Experience with UQ’s research and administrative systems. Skills in managing and developing staff per QASP requirements. Handling livestock, managing samples, and conducting research activities. Planning, staffing, and overseeing research trials. Experience in ISO9001 is valued but not essential. Strong communication with staff, researchers, and clients. Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and solve problems. Confidence in representing QASP at forums and presentations and Queensland C class license required. The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, Right to work in Australia.
