Associate Research Fellow, Research and Policy, The Whitlam Institute About Us The Whitlam Institute within Western Sydney University is dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of one of Australia’s most respected Prime Ministers, the Hon Gough Whitlam AC QC. Through research, policy development, and public engagement, the Whitlam Institute promotes the contemporary relevance of Whitlam’s vision for a more equal, open, tolerant, and independent Australia. The Role We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative scholar to join our team as an Associate Research Fellow on a part-time basis (0.2 FTE). In this role, you will play an integral part in contributing to the Whitlam Institute’s research activities while providing critical research support to the Director, Research and Policy. Your work will align with the Institute’s mission to inspire national conversations and policy initiatives that uphold the values of social justice, equality, and progress. This role offers a unique opportunity to undertake and contribute to research that reflects the Whitlam Institute’s vision and priorities. You will actively engage in academic research and policy activities while managing related administrative tasks. Working closely with the Director, Research and Policy and the Director of the Whitlam Institute, you will collaborate with a dynamic team to advance the Institute’s research agenda. Additionally, you will foster and develop meaningful research collaborations both within Western Sydney University and with external stakeholders, enhancing the Institute’s impact and outreach. About You To be successful in this role, you will possess a strong research background in a relevant discipline, such as public policy, political science, law, history, or social sciences. Your demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative research will be complemented by strong analytical, writing, and communication skills. Experience in academic research, policy development, or public engagement is highly desirable, as is your capacity to build and maintain professional relationships both within the University and externally.
