About the role We are seeking an experienced Biodiversity Project Manager to join our team at the Koala Farmland Fund. In this full-time position based in Toowoomba, Queensland, you will play a crucial role in managing and executing the various Biodiversity Offset Management Plans we are developing on our properties. This is an exciting & rewarding role to be delivering the management plans on property we own, and playing a role in rehabilitating habitat for some of Australia's most endangered wildlife, such as koala & greater glider. About us Koala Farmland Funds (KFF) purchase land in Queensland to develop incremental environmental income streams in the form of biodiversity offsets, carbon credits, or hosting renewable projects. Launched in 2021, there are now 2 funds across 4 properties with another 3 properties to be purchased in 2025. It is the intention to continue growing the portfolio of KFF funds and properties having boast some of Australia’s largest residential and renewable developers as clients. KFF is run by Upscale Funds Management (Upscale), whose vision is to create more investable climate resilient agriculture that is positive for investors and the environment. Upscale began in 2016 and is one of the very few for-profit environmental fund managers in Australia. Upscale now manages 7 funds and 11 properties with $55M under management. The Upscale Group also operates Upscale Carbon, a carbon farming developer that helps landholders create their own carbon credits. Upscale has offices in Toowoomba and Chinchilla. We are an environmental offset provider, based in SEQ. We deliver the offsets on land we own and manage. We currently have three EPBC Approved offsets, totaling over 450ha with a number of other projects in various stages of the approval process. What you'll be doing Review Offset Management Plans provided by clients & consultants to ensure suitability for our execution Liaise with clients & their consultants through the offset approval process Complete annual compliance reporting for approved offset areas Develop, implement and maintain offset property management plans, including pest, weed & fire management plans Perform occasional ecological field work required by the management plans (site assessments, weed & pest surveys, flora & fauna surveys) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Government policy and interpretation Project Management of approved Offset Management Plans to ensure compliance & set out workload across the various properties & offset areas Manage project management software Liaise with General Manager & Farm Manager for operational planning & execution of approved offset management plans Support with budgeting of offset areas and property-wide management plans Assist General Manager to find suitable properties to purchase for hosting biodiversity offsets Opportunity to work across related businesses for biodiversity projects and participate in carbon projects and related field work What we're looking for Tertiary qualification in ecology, environmental science or a related field Minimum 4 years of ecological field experience Some experience in ecological restoration is desirable Consulting experience with strong technical report writing Demonstrated project management skills Strong understanding of Qld & EPBC offset legislation and regulations A background and understanding of agriculture Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently to achieve results What we offer At Koala Farmland Fund, we are committed to providing our employees with a supportive and rewarding work environment.
