YOUR ROLE IN OUR FUTURE Bioinformatician, Bioinformatics Core Facility - Cancer Research Division The primary responsibility of this role is to support the bioinformatics analysis of cancer research projects in the Bioinformatics Core Facility and will work closely with Professor Ben Hogan and other researchers at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. This position is responsible for: Processing and analysing data from Whole Exome and Whole Genome Sequencing projects. Utilising best-practice bioinformatics tools and software to identify and annotate human variants and SNPs. Analysing RNAseq, single-cell RNAseq and methylation data. Applying advanced filtering techniques to VCF files to extract relevant genetic information. Conducting statistical analyses to interpret sequencing data, focusing on cancer risk assessment in large cohort studies. Collaborating with researchers and other bioinformaticians to ensure seamless integration of bioinformatics analysis in broader research projects. This position is: 24-months Fixed-Term, Full-Time Onsite presence essential at 305 Grattan Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000 Basic Salary Range: $97,770.40 - $113,262.24 AUD Advertising from 14th January 2025 to 11th February 2025 The successful candidate will have an Honour’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Computer Science, or equivalent. The candidate will have strong computational skills and experience applying them in the analysis of genomic data. Qualification, experience and skills: BSc with Honours or Masters in an appropriate area of study (such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, or Computer Science), or relevant experience working with transcriptomic data. Excellent programming and data analysis skills in R and Python. Experience working in a Unix environment and shell scripting. Experience in bioinformatics and genomics research, such as working with next-generation sequencing data, transcriptomic and single-cell data. Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work constructively within a cross-disciplinary team environment. Excellent attention to detail, ensuring that data analysis, new methods and software implementations are of high quality and accessible to other researchers. Ability to manage time effectively and be reliable and approachable. Willingness to take direction and have progress reviewed where required. Knowledge or basic training in cell and developmental biology or molecular genetics. Experience working with bioinformatics pipelines and analysis methods for genomics data. Experience working with high-performance computing (HPC) systems, or cloud computing. Experience with multi-omics data integration.
