Position Type : Five (5) year contract position Location : Council Chamber, 119 – 145 Spence Street, Portsmith Application Close Date : Sunday, 5 January 2025 at 11.30pm AEST About the Role : Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Manager to lead and manage the operations of the Community Life Branch. This pivotal role involves overseeing key community-facing services, including community development, community safety, natural assets, and animal management. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the strategic planning and operational delivery of services that enhance the wellbeing and safety of the Cairns community. The Executive Manager will work collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, and the community, driving community development initiatives, fostering partnerships, and ensuring the effective management of natural and community assets. Key Responsibilities : Natural Assets Management: Lead the Natural Assets team in land management, pest plant and animal management, and wildlife care. Community Development: Oversee initiatives to strengthen social capital, build wellbeing, and enhance community resilience through programs such as Community Support, Community Partnerships, and Green Space Our Place. Community Safety: Lead the Community Safety unit, managing Regulated Parking, Animal Management, and City Safe to ensure the safety and security of residents. Operational Excellence: Develop and implement strategic plans and action plans, monitor performance, and manage budgets and resources. Key Skills and Qualifications : Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Public Safety, Criminology, or a related field, or extensive experience in managing similar services within a Local Government context. A management qualification is highly desirable. Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, with a strong focus on fostering a positive culture. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. A solid understanding of Local Government operations, including the political and complex environment in which it functions.
