Business Law Clinical Faculty Job Title: Business Law Clinical Faculty Department: Law | Law Reserve Position Overview The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law invites applications for a clinical faculty position at the rank of either assistant, associate, or professor starting in Autumn 2025. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position. We will consider all qualified applicants. We particularly encourage applicants with significant experience representing entrepreneurs and early-stage companies, proven ability to develop a caseload, and a passion for teaching and mentoring. Candidates also should have a record that demonstrates potential for successful clinical teaching and related activities. Position Description The Entrepreneurial Business Law Clinic (EBLC) provides students with the opportunity to represent entrepreneurs and their businesses while simultaneously supporting and furthering Ohio’s mission of sustained economic growth. Students will work with clients on all phases of starting a business, including client intake, entity formation, legal business planning, and contract drafting (including employment and independent contractor contracts). When relevant for the client, students will also learn how to protect the intellectual property of a business. The Clinical Professor will have complete autonomy over both clinical pedagogy and selection and handling of all cases. The College’s clinical-track faculty positions are non-tenure track, with security reasonably similar to tenure, as provided by ABA Standard 405(c) and include governance rights, the opportunity for advancement, access to a research budget, availability of summer research funds, and the potential for research leave. Performance Objectives The EBLC’s clinical professor will have several responsibilities, including: supervising up to 8 law students in a 4-credit course offering who represent clients under the Ohio Supreme Court's student practice rule; designing the course and teaching lawyering skills; and engaging with the local and regional entrepreneurial community. Responsibilities: 65% Clinical teaching – conducting weekly class seminars (4 hours per week); preparing for classes; supervising students’ performance of legal services; mentoring individual students 25% Client development – identifying individuals and groups for whom the clinic can productively offer services while providing meaningful training opportunities to clinic students 10% Community engagement – developing relationships outside the college and being the primary public face of the EBLC Education and Experience Requirements Required: JD degree. Three years’ experience practicing law. Admission or eligible for admission to Ohio Bar. Desired: Substantial experience representing start-up businesses and nonprofits. Experience with university-level teaching. Experience in leadership or supervisory positions. Experience as a mentor to junior lawyers.
