UQ Veterinary Teaching Hospital Full-time permanent position Base salary will be in the range $113,377.67 - $127,112.24 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8) Based at Gatton Campus About This Opportunity The Business Manager is responsible for managing the commercial and operational aspects of the School’s Veterinary Teaching Hospitals. This includes overseeing business processes, identifying opportunities for revenue growth, cost-saving initiatives, and improving operational efficiency. The role requires coordination among clinical units, faculty, administrative teams, and external partners to ensure business improvements align with strategic objectives and compliance standards. Key Responsibilities Will Include Oversee day-to-day commercial activities across all Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) sites. Implement VTH business and reporting systems in line with UQ policies and industry standards. Identify and develop business opportunities, including changes to operating models and local industry relationships. Contribute to annual budgets, financial reporting, and ad-hoc reviews. Manage billing, receipting, and debtor activities for VTH. Ensure VTH debt collection aligns with UQ Finance and Business Services. Negotiate supply agreements with industry wholesalers. Oversee inventory and stock management. Prepare business cases and strategic procurement plans. Present performance reports to leadership, develop performance metrics, and ensure compliance with UQ policies. Ensure compliance with the University’s Code of Conduct, Queensland OH&S legislation, sustainability practices, and related responsibilities. Adhere to procedures developed by the University or School and perform other duties or projects as directed by the Hospital Executive or School Manager. About The Veterinary Teaching Hospital The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is an organisational unit within the School that includes all of the School’s outstanding clinical facilities. UQ VETS Equine Hospital is largely referral-based hospital with advanced facilities and offers a 24-hour emergency medical and surgical service. UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital boasts the latest in veterinary medical and surgical diagnostic and treatment options for small animals, birds, exotic pets and wildlife, as well as a 7-day urgent and emergency care service. The UQ VETS Clinical Studies Centre facilitates and provides support to pre-clinical and clinical training in companion animals as well as a renowned research hub for clinical and behavioural research. The Centre includes a 16 – table surgical teaching facility and is also used for veterinary continuing education events. The Clinical Studies Centre is also home to the School’s Pets-for-Life Adoption Program. UQ staff also supervise clinical placements at the RSPCA’s Brisbane Animal Care Campus, Wacol. High-level knowledge of clinical practice management systems or similar financial information systems. Experience in developing and implementing performance measurement tools and KPIs. Proven ability to lead teams and build partnerships with diverse stakeholders. Experience in driving performance improvement initiatives. Strong commitment to quality client service, sound judgment, prioritization skills, and ability to manage change effectively.
