Role Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school. Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others. Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals. Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan. Responsibilities The Careers Leading Teacher will: provide counselling to individuals and small groups of students about education, training and course counselling follow up students exiting the school, to assist them in engaging in further education, training or employment, and maintain a computer database, using the CASES21 software support the work experience program provide advice and support to VCAL staff in their organisation of VCAL work placements coordinate the College VET program and liaise with our Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) and other organisations that support young people in making the transition from school to employment and/or study/training liaise with relevant community groups to engage their support for both individual students and the school's Pathway, Careers and VET planning in general provide information about and promote tertiary pathways for Year 12 students and assist with VTAC, scholarship and accommodation applications keep records of all students' Pathway Plans including post Year 12 assist with parent and student information sessions, regarding subject selections, tertiary entrance, career information contribute to developing School Policy, that impacts on the portfolio participate in ongoing evaluation of the program to ensure students' needs are met provide support to teachers who are involved in Careers planning programs, course counselling have an awareness and knowledge to work with indigenous and international students and students with a disability liaise with and engage appropriate DET regional and external services other duties as negotiated with Principal Class Who May Apply Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.
