Job Description

The Category Manager for Construction will be responsible for overseeing and driving the procurement strategy for construction-related goods and services at University. This role involves managing the end-to-end procurement lifecycle, from identifying needs and developing category strategies to sourcing, contracting, and managing supplier relationships. The Category Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective construction projects that meet the University's requirements and standards. Key Responsibilities: Category Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive procurement strategies for construction-related goods and services that align with University goals and project requirements. Continuously assess market trends, identify opportunities for innovation, and optimize procurement processes. Sourcing & Tendering: Lead and manage the tendering process for construction projects, including developing and issuing requests for proposals (RFPs), evaluating bids, and selecting suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery timelines. Contract Management: Negotiate, draft, and manage contracts with construction vendors, ensuring compliance with legal, financial, and technical specifications. Monitor contract performance and ensure that all parties fulfill their obligations, resolving issues when necessary. Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with construction suppliers and contractors. Collaborate closely with suppliers to improve performance, manage risks, and drive value across the supply chain. Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with property managers, project managers, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment on construction project requirements, budgets, timelines, and quality standards. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to construction procurement, including reputational, legal, commercial, and supply chain risks. Monitor the performance of suppliers to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. Qualifications and Experience: Proven experience in construction procurement, category management, or related roles within the construction industry. Strong understanding of construction project lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, and post-construction phases. Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop and implement strategic procurement plans for complex construction projects. Familiarity with relevant construction laws, contracts, and regulations. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering cost-effective and high-quality solutions. Experience in managing supplier relationships and resolving disputes effectively. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and meet tight deadlines. Relevant qualifications in construction management, procurement, business, or a related field.
