Civil Engineering Technologist/Technician - Wingham, ON Requisition Number : CIVIL001834 Posted : January 14, 2025 Type : Full-Time, Hybrid About Us R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) has an opening for an Intermediate or junior graduate from a Civil Engineering Technology program to join our team, working out of our Wingham office. What to Expect With experience and mentoring, we expect the candidate to start drawings from the conceptual stage and progress through the design process working collaboratively with our engineers and senior technicians. We also anticipate opportunities for field work including surveying, layout and inspection as well as Contract Administration services. The team focuses largely on Civil projects involving storm water and drainage and assists clients on projects from concept to completion. The selected individual will work closely with the other team members and should excel at working in a fast-paced, adaptive and innovative environment. The Role This position will involve carrying out the following tasks: Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to design and produce functional, preliminary, and detailed design drawings for a wide variety of road, Municipal Drain, site development and land development projects; Production of detailed engineering drawings including plan, profile, and section drawings; Proactively advance design techniques and procedures to support designers, project managers and technicians; Prepare cost estimates, quantities, and tender packages; Prepare necessary reports including calculations; Assist Contract Administration staff with preparation of tender documents, site visits, deficiency review and security releases; Complete construction review, inspection and surveying; Responsible for organized note keeping/file management, including submittal of data to required parties; Complete topographic surveying by running Total Station, GPS data equipment as well as the downloading of electronic files; Other duties as assigned. Professional Knowledge & Qualifications The following qualifications, experience and skills are required: Successful completion of post secondary program in Civil Engineering Technician/ Technology, eligible for CET Designation; Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D; Experience working as part of a project team in a consulting environment is considered an asset; Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to multi-task and work on a number of projects concurrently; Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment; A valid Ontario driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
