About the role We’re on the lookout for a passionate and highly motivated Communication Technician (Power Technician Comms) to join our team, providing support to the Ausnet network across Victoria and base out of our Thomastown depot. The incumbents may be required to travel and overnight stay within the state. This role offers an exciting opportunity to perform installation, diagnostic testing, and maintenance services on various communications networks, including copper, fibre optic, and microwave radio technologies. Key Responsibilities include Foster strong communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate network activities. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of data for work records and reporting, with a focus on attention to detail. Keep your training and authorisations up to date at all times and participate in identifying productivity, procedural, and safety improvements. Follow and conform to all safe working practices, OHS&E principles, and Australian standards. Be open to participating in the on-call roster, offering support when needed. About You We’re looking for someone with a strong background in communications, holds a Communication Diploma (or equivalent qualification), and a current Australian driver's licence. Strong technical knowledge and experience working on some of the following communications technologies: ethernet networks including MPLS-TP, point to point and point to multipoint radio systems, multiplexing (PDH, SDH, DWDM), fibre optic networks, tele protection systems, telephony, and DC power systems. Ability to analyse and solve technical information, including fault finding in both the maintenance and commissioning of communications systems. Compare information from different sources to come to a conclusion and select an appropriate course of action.
