Overview: Communications Manager, External Affairs and Media Full-time, Continuing position Salary Level HEW 8 + 17% Superannuation Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, and hybrid ways of working About the role As the Communications Manager, you will play a leading role in engaging with the media to connect RMIT with industry, government and community audiences. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, Corporate Affairs and Social Media, you will be an experienced and trusted media advisor ready to play a key role to promote, position and protect the RMIT brand. You can balance boundless curiosity with a strong news sense to identify media opportunities, as well as risks, within a complex academic environment. In this role you will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to identify and amplify stories that bring the strategic priorities of the University to life. The role helps build media engagement capability by providing formal and informal coaching and training to academics and leaders across RMIT.To be successful in this position, you'll have: Experience in a highly effective external communications function, working with media and managing risk and reputational issues. Experience in communications planning, delivery and measurement that contributed to strategic organisational objectives. Experience using data to guide stakeholders and identifying emerging and unmet needs to develop solutions to meet those needs. The ability to advise leadership on managing public issues and directly undertake media/issues management. The ability to coach managers and senior leaders and enable them to lead dialogue with their respective stakeholders.
