You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge. About The Role As a Conductor, you’re not just a member of the Customer Group; you’re the face of V/Line. V/Line Conductors ensure every journey is smooth and enjoyable for our passengers. Conductors have people at the heart of their work and take pride in the positive impact they have on our customers and communities. The Conductor role is highly autonomous; therefore, you’ll possess a level of maturity, previous success in operating in a safety and time-critical environment, and an absolute commitment to providing superior customer service. This position is fixed-term part-time until January 2026 with a rotating roster. Shifts can start from 3:30 am and can finish at 3:30 am. Depending on scheduling and business needs, you may be required to sign on and work at various stations along the Ballarat line within 80 km of your Home Depot. Key Accountabilities include: Customer Service & Information: Be the go-to person for passengers, providing assistance and information to customers face-to-face and via a PA system. Train Preparation: Ensure trains are ready for service, from cleanliness to functionality. Fare Management: Handle ticket sales, check tickets, and provide face advice during train services. Platform Duties: Oversee train departures and assist with luggage at stations. Coach Duties: Manage coaches during planned and unplanned disruptions and events. Fault Reporting: Manage and report any equipment or facility issues. Emergency Management: Be prepared to handle service disruptions and emergencies. The role is highly autonomous; therefore, you’ll possess a level of maturity, previous success in operating in a safety and time-critical environment, and an absolute commitment to providing superior customer service. New Conductors are offered the following: Guaranteed 32 hours per fortnight The opportunity to pick up extra shifts scheduled across the roster Paid training rate $35.57 p/hr +super Qualified rate of $47.51 p/hr +super Generous leave loading Free Myki travel About You You’re a confident, customer-focused individual, with a background of face-to-face customer service, able to work a rotating roster including weekends, public holidays, and early and late shifts. You know how to adapt your communication to different customer groups and handle difficult situations autonomously. Our ideal candidate will possess the following: Completion of Year 10 or equivalent. Valid Victorian Drivers Licence. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work within rules and compliance frameworks. Strong safety awareness.
