The Waste and Resource Management branch provides services to both the Council and community in waste management and takes a lead role in formulating waste management strategy to align with the sustainability vision of Council. The Contaminated Land, Waste Project and Contracts Officer implements Waste and Resource Management’s (WRM) environmental obligations at operational and closed waste facilities, and assists in managing, developing, implementing, reviewing, and maintaining effective waste management operations and programs. Assist in the implementation, administration, and delivery of the environmental compliance program for operational waste diversion and disposal facilities and delivery of closed landfill remediation program projects. Manage and deliver Council’s Works on Closed Landfills Policy and Procedure. Manage the budgeting and delivery of WRM’s Provisions Budget (Closed Landfill Remediation Program). Project manage the planning and delivery of solid waste infrastructure, contracts, and operations. Act as contract administrator and supervise contractors at Landfills, Transfer Stations, Resource Recovery Centres, and other waste facilities to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Identify opportunities and implement strategies for waste diversion from waste facilities and value adding to current materials and processes, including collection and processing of waste. About you As a requirement of this role, tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental/Civil Engineering, or equivalent are necessary. Demonstrated experience in managing environmental values in waste management, contaminated land, or similar regulated industry. Demonstrated project and contract management experience. Minimum five years’ experience in relevant Government or private sectors. Comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation and policy impacting waste management. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, interpersonal, negotiation, and networking skills. Pre-Employment Medical Required Physical agility and the fitness level to carry out laboring tasks, including frequent heavy lifting and bending, are essential. Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
