About the role As the Coordinator Safety and Wellbeing, you will lead the Safety and Wellbeing Unit at Merri-bek City Council, driving initiatives that enhance workplace safety and promote a culture of wellbeing. Reporting to the Manager People and Safety, this role focuses on implementing effective safety management systems, ensuring compliance with OHS legislation, and fostering a proactive safety culture across the organization. Your responsibilities will include overseeing workplace safety policy and processes such as incident management, risk assessments, WorkCover claim management and return-to-work programs. You will develop and implement OHS policies and procedures, ensure compliance with Child Safety Standards, and manage governance related to workplace safety and wellbeing. Collaborating with various stakeholders, you will provide expert advice to enhance safety outcomes, build organizational capability, support wellbeing initiatives and drive continuous improvement. With a focus on team leadership, you will mentor and support your team, ensuring a collaborative approach to delivering high-quality safety and wellbeing services that align with Merri-bek’s broader organizational goals. Skills and experience required to perform the role To excel in this role, you will bring: A degree or postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline. Proven experience in leading safety initiatives and managing OHS within a complex organizational setting. Strong understanding of OHS legislation, injury prevention, and wellbeing programs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and influence stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership capability to manage and mentor a high-performing team. A Working with Children Check is mandatory for this role.
