Forensic Services Group; Operations Support Command; Regional Services; Brisbane The Coronial Support Unit plays a vital role in ensuring that Coroners have effective investigations conducted on their behalf and members of the Queensland Police Service are provided with sufficient support and information to perform these roles and functions when responding to and investigating a reportable death under the Coroners Act 2003.As a part of the Coronial Support Unit, you will report to the Sergeant, Senior Coronial Officer, Coronial Support Unit to provide high-level advice regarding coronial investigations, support the Coroners, and support the Coronial System Stakeholders. Job details Position status: Fixed Term Temporary Position type: Full-time Occupational group: Administration Classification: AO3 Workplace Location: Job ad reference: QLD/619990/25 Closing date: 26-Feb-2025 Job duration: 6 months from appointment with possible extension The core capability requirements for this role are: Review police reporting, including coronial documents (Form 1) at all sudden death occurrences to identify Apparent Natural Cause (ANC) deaths and instigate or pursue inquiries to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of reporting. Provide support and assistance to frontline officers to obtain a Cause of Death Certificate for ANC deaths in accordance with the State Coroner's guidelines. Work collaboratively with police, doctors, Qld Health pathologists and nurses, the Clinical Forensic Medical Unit, coroners, and coronial registrars to divert natural cause deaths from the Coronial system. Engage with regional frontline police, DDO's, and Officers in Charge to develop a better understanding of the coronial process in respect of ANC deaths. Establish and maintain effective communication channels with internal and external clients and stakeholders. Implement, manage and apply problem-solving approaches to bring about improved service delivery and contribute to the development and training of relevant persons in the coronial system. Research, collate and report on ANC triaging statistics across Qld for internal and external stakeholders. Role Requirements: Mandatory: Possess a current Queensland class ‘C' drivers license or equivalent. Other: There are multiple temporary positions available for a 6 month period from the date of appointment, with the possibility of extension. If selected, public service officers from other agencies will be seconded for the period concerned, subject to agreement and release by the home agency. The successful applicant will be required to undergo psychometric assessment prior to appointment.
