Criminal Appeals Manager – Criminal Law Practice 2 Year Contract Location: Darwin About the Legal Aid NT: Legal Aid NT is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990 (NT). Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system. About the role: Under the supervision of the Managing Solicitor of the Darwin Practice, you will provide high-quality legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NT charged with criminal offences. Additionally, you will manage the Criminal Appeals Practice, including the Court of Criminal Appeal Practice, under the direction of the Senior Public Defender. About you: You are an experienced Senior Solicitor with high-level knowledge and experience in criminal law practice and procedures, including well-developed advocacy skills and an understanding of appellate law and practice. You possess substantial post-admission experience in criminal law practice, including the conduct of contested matters, and have demonstrated the ability to deliver high-quality complex legal advice, assistance, and representation in a range of criminal law matters, along with undertaking related advocacy, policy, and law reform work. Crucial to your success in this role are your high-level interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as your demonstrated ability to liaise and communicate effectively with staff, external stakeholders, and clients with complex needs from diverse backgrounds.
