Queensland Ambulance Service (Organisation site: )Mount Isa Critical Care Paramedic; North West District; Northern Region; Parkside The Critical Care Flight Paramedic (CCFP) provides frontline out-of-hospital care and specialised retrieval services to severely ill or injured patients in acute, life-threatening emergencies. The role undertakes advanced clinical interventions in line with QAS policies and procedures, under the direct clinical governance of the QAS Medical Director.CCFPs work with a team of helicopter rescue staff and provide support to flight physicians during complex retrieval operations. Key Responsibilities Provide clinical expertise in the delivery of high acuity pre-hospital emergency patient care, complex case management and patient retrieval services. Carry out advanced dynamic risk assessments within the frontline operational work environment to ensure scene, patient and personal safety during the delivery of ambulance and retrieval services. Undertake a thorough clinical assessment of patients in the acute setting to identify illness or injury and plan and initiate appropriate patient management consistent with the QAS Clinical Practice Manual and the needs of the patient. Manage, administer and/or supply medication and treatment in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures; to support the provision of the most effective care and treatment to the patient in an ethical and professional manner. Undertake specialised retrieval operations (in line with their extended scope of practice) which may be conducted in conjunction with flight physicians and aeromedical team members. Carry out all duties and undertake aeromedical training in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority Regulations, the Helicopter Provider's Operations Manual and other relevant aviation regulations, policies and standards. Work effectively as a member of a small team ensuring that the Pilot is promptly advised on all matters affecting the safety and effectiveness of the aircraft and undertaking support and administrative duties as directed by the QAS and in collaboration with local helicopter rescue senior staff. Maintain the aircraft and hangar and all equipment and vehicles in a state of readiness to ensure the security, safety and maintenance of allocated equipment and support the effective operation of the station/facility in accordance with QAS and base-specific standards. Undertake professional development activities related to CCFP practice, including regular quality assurance case audits and quality assurance activities related to high acuity case management and maintaining aeromedical/medical retrieval skills. Participate in clinical trials, research activities involving CCFP patient care, education activities and clinical guideline development relating to trauma care and retrieval services. Represent the QAS at conferences, workshops and specialist medical group forums relating to the areas of trauma and aeromedical care. Contribute to the development of self and others through clinical leadership and professionalism; reflective practice; real time supervision and coaching in a clinical setting; and informal debriefs. As a clinical leader, build and maintain productive relationships with partners and key stakeholders, including helicopter rescue staff, Queensland Health Hospital and Health Services and other health/emergency service providers to ensure appropriate solutions are available across the health continuum.
