Your role and responsibilities We are currently recruiting for a Data Engineer - Data Platforms - Azure for an 18-month fixed-term contract, based in Sydney. You will be part of an Application Development team that is responsible for supporting the full life cycle of development and enhancements. As a Data Engineer, your responsibilities include: Collaborate effectively both individually and as part of a team, driving customer satisfaction and success. Load, ingest, and process data into Westpac’s Enterprise Data Platform (DDEP), providing expert advice and support in enterprise information management. Demonstrate a deep understanding of data storage, processing, and maintenance in the context of big data. Engage in requirements gathering from business stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Design tailored solutions based on gathered requirements, adhering to Westpac's standard solutioning patterns, and successfully implement them to deliver the project. Lead and mentor team members to ensure successful solution delivery and implementation. Possess strong understanding and hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP). Automate implementation processes using CI/CD, DevOps, and Westpac’s customized release platforms to streamline workflows. Develop and review design documents, while aligning technical solutions with the Bank’s Enterprise Architecture for banking and finance domain projects. Lead and contribute to problem-solving efforts, driving large-scale change through process engineering, technology integration, and team collaboration. Required education Bachelor's Degree Required technical and professional expertise To ensure success in the role, you will possess the following skills: Over 9 years of technical expertise in Data Engineering and the Big Data technology stack. 7+ years of hands-on experience in Python and Linux Shell scripting, along with 3+ years as an Implementation and Lead Engineer. 6+ years of experience working with Spark, Hive, HBase (NoSQL), SQL, Teradata, Control-M, Spark Streaming, and Data Products. In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Westpac's Data Platforms (DDEP). Experience as a Technical Business Analyst to collaborate with business stakeholders, gathering and understanding business requirements, and effectively articulating them. Contributed to data modeling efforts by defining source-to-target data mappings to ensure alignment with business objectives and project goals. Over 6 years of business domain expertise in the Banking and Finance industry. Skilled in automating implementation processes using CI/CD DevOps practices, including DevSecOps, Git, Jenkins, and other tools. Collaborate regularly with Solution Designers, Tech Leads, and Business Analysts to understand and refine new implementation processes for achieving Agile production releases on the DDEP platform. Lead and manage large, complex banking projects and teams across multiple locations within the Banking and Finance sector.
