About the Role As a Database Engineer in Support and Operations (Technology - Infrastructure Services - Commodity Compute), you’ll be responsible for providing database technical support, troubleshooting, and resolving database-related issues. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of IT principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for learning and development in a fast-paced environment. This role will require working in shifts (roster based), particularly weekends to provide 24/7 support. Role Location: Melbourne (Australia) Role Type: Permanent – Full Time Employment Shift Schedule: BAU (24x7) What will your day look like? As a Support Engineer (on roster and outside roster), you will be accountable for: Incident Management: Manage support incidents and requests, ensuring timely and accurate resolution in accordance with SLAs. User Communication: Communicate effectively with end-users for a variety of activities like addressing daily emails, customer requests, problem, incident, and change management. Collaboration: Work closely with infrastructure teams and stakeholders to ensure internal works are completed on time and stakeholder’s issues are addressed in a timely and efficient manner. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for technical and process improvements and contribute to the development and implementation of support best practices - Automation is highly regarded. Compliance: Assist with risk management, internal/external audit, Tech Assurance, Change, and Problem Management. Documentation: Create and maintain necessary documentation of support processes, procedures, and resolutions for future reference and training. What will you bring? To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring most, if not all, of the following: Recent technical work experience of 5+ years as SQL Infrastructure support and operations DBA including experience on SQL. Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications. Must have a good understanding of life cycle management of database software including patch management for databases. Compelling knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL High Availability. Excellent triage, problem analysis and solving, and troubleshooting skills to manage Database stability, performance, compliance, and capacity. Good understanding and reasonable hands-on experience with query store, scripting – TSQL & PowerShell, high-availability – traditional clustering and AO cluster, and Disaster Recovery. Familiarity with database design, T-SQL coding, documentation, and relevant scripting languages. Good conceptual understanding of Industry based ITIL process in Change, Incident and Problem management is expected; (ITIL certification is a bonus). Strong verbal and written communication skills along with negotiation and task management skills. Certifications – ITIL, SQL, Cloud (good to have). Essential skills – SQL Server Database Engine and Tools installation, migration – in-place and out of place, patching, security, performance analysis, tuning, high-availability (AOAG, Replication, Clustering etc.) is paramount. Experience relevant to “What you will bring” – 5+ years. Soft Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, customer/stakeholder handling skills. Educational Background (if required) – Engineering (Computer Science) or relevant. Desired Skills – Experience in System Analysis, project management, cloud, and related technologies.
