THIS POSITION IS BASED IN KENSINGTON APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION CLOSE ATMIDDAY ON MONDAY, 3 FEBRUARY 2025 The Ecoinformatics Unit manages and makes available the digital biodiversity assets of Biodiversity and Conservation Science. The unit compiles and maintains corporate databases and business systems. The unit collaborates on projects involving complex information management and analysis, such as identifying broad-scale patterns of plant biodiversity. The unit represents Biodiversity and Conservation Science on various forums that have a significant information management (IM) focus, and provides advice on a range of strategic IM issues. The Ecoinformatics Unit collaborates with various organisations in co-developing ecoinformatics tools and data hosting. We currently have an opportunity for a Database and System Developer to join our team. This position is responsible for the development, integration and customisation of information systems and database solutions to support Biodiversity and Conservation Science business functions. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements, estimating work content and planned timelines, communicating proposed designs and progressing solutions. The role requires an ability to clearly understand business pain points and to develop and implement solutions that leverage new approaches to system design and functionality. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total. Considerable experience in backend development of information technology system functionality and databases, with highly developed skills in at least one backend language (Python is preferred). Experience in one or more of the following technologies, frameworks and processes used within the department: Django, Drupal, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure and/or DevOps processes. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to meet evolving business needs.
