Director - First Nations Clean Energy Network - Identified This position is designated as an Indigenous Identified Position. First Nations Clean Energy Network Original Power is a key founder of the First Nations Clean Energy Network and is actively involved in supporting the Network. Network vision: The network will ensure First Nations people play a central role and harness the opportunities from Australia’s clean energy boom. Together we will support community-owned renewable projects to deliver lower-cost, reliable energy. Our mission is to: Support communities to drive the development of clean energy projects that provide direct benefits to residents through reduced household energy costs and more reliable energy. Establish an innovation hub, promoting the implementation of best practice principles that should underpin all agreements for land use and benefit sharing between First Nations groups, companies and investors. Advocate to lift significant federal and state regulatory barriers to renewable energy development. The Network is made up of First Nations people, communities and organisations, collaborating with industry, investors, unions, academics, legal and technical experts. It will ensure our people are part of the renewable energy revolution. The Position This new position reports to Original Power’s Executive Director and works alongside the Director, Policy and Engagement. You will work closely with the Network team, Steering Group, network members and members of the Original Power team including as a member of the leadership team. You will liaise with key stakeholders, including communities, outside of the organisation. In this role you will lead the development of new initiatives, build a network of experts in providing advice and support to local communities, and work with stakeholders and representative bodies to ensure First Nations communities share in the benefits of the renewables boom. Key responsibilities of the FNCEN Director include: Refine and implement strategic direction and associated new initiatives. Build and develop a national team to support the growth of the network. Work with relevant stakeholders and communities to develop initiatives related to clean energy. Collaborate with the Director, Policy and Engagement to monitor relevant policy and clean energy sector developments. Coordinate the First Nations Clean Energy Network Steering Group. Manage and develop new partnerships with key stakeholders. Ensuring community aspirations and priorities are met. Representing the Network and Original Power in various meetings. Implementing systems and processes that ensure transparency. The responsibilities of the FNCEN Director will be wide-ranging and your day-to-day work will adapt to the strategy to achieve community-led goals. Your skills and experience include: Outstanding strategic and project management. Demonstrated experience in community engagement. High level supervisory and organisational experience. Extensive knowledge of First Nations. Adept at spotting political barriers and opportunities. High level cultural competency. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. SELECTION CRITERIA Experience - Required At least three - five years' experience in high level strategic and organisational management. Strategic leadership skills and knowledge of policy areas such as climate change and renewable energy. High level of cultural knowledge with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Excellent communication skills with proven ability to generate high quality research-based content. Excellent organisational skills including time management. Qualifications & Skills - Highly Desirable Experience working in community political and/or social movement campaigns. Familiarity with budget management and corporate governance.
