Director Fleet OperationsFull-time Permanent Details : The Fleet Directors report to the Senior Director, Fleet Services. The primary role of these positions is to manage, administer, coordinate, and improve all bus fleet maintenance and repair functions of the workshops. This is to be delivered through a core focus on work health safety, driving a culture of safety first, and demonstrating a commitment to ensuring the workplace and practices undertaken within the workplace are considered, risk assessed, and monitored for best practices in safety. These roles are responsible for moving the culture of the workplace forward, ensuring compliance and adherence to safe systems of work, appropriate PPE, and method statements are utilized every time, and that the workforce feels supported in making the right choices. The Fleet Directors are also responsible for the management of the staff, providing leadership, motivation, and development. In addition, the Fleet Directors are required to ensure ongoing development and implement continuous improvement programs across the business unit to achieve optimal fleet to network utilization. They will mentor and foster emerging managers through support, leadership, and guidance. As a senior leader within TCCS, this role requires a person who can inspire, energize, and positively influence team and individual outcomes. The roles are responsible for supervising, managing, and motivating a team and providing appropriate support and guidance. Effective employee engagement skills are a key enabler in the performance of this role, as is a values-based leadership style. These positions require a leader with a strong, considered, and engaging people focus to successfully deliver and drive a culture of respect and a desire to achieve customer service excellence. The ideal candidate will possess an innate ability to draw on the right skills in a contextually and environmentally appropriate manner, align team performance, and develop capacity to achieve organizational objectives. Fleet Directors carry responsibility for one of the following portfolios and may rotate through these areas of responsibility on planned rotation subject to Senior Director direction and operational needs: Major Unit Overhaul (MUO) Workshop inclusive of Apprenticeship Lead North (Belconnen) Fleet Workshop inclusive of Cleaner Refueller functions South (Tuggeranong) Fleet Workshop inclusive of Cleaner Refueller functions Central (Woden) Fleet Workshop inclusive of Cleaner Refueller functions Key tasks and responsibilities for the Fleet Director positions: Manage, administer, and coordinate all bus fleet maintenance and repair functions of the workshops to achieve manufacturer specifications, Transport Canberra standards, and accreditation/compliance requirements. Oversee all maintenance activities including financial and performance reporting, business analysis, and monitoring, audit, and asset management. Provide leadership, motivation, and development of staff at all levels across the business, including the coordination of apprentice and post-trade technical training for Transport Canberra’s workshops. Coordinate the apprentice training system within Transport Canberra including ASBA and work experience students. Develop and implement continuous improvement programs across the business unit to achieve optimal fleet to network utilization. Represent Transport Canberra at committees and meetings, with particular emphasis on fleet maintenance issues. Provide support outside of usual business hours for emergency or urgent issues, using on-call arrangements shared across all Fleet Directors on a planned schedule. Manage and coordinate bus recovery operations and tow truck maintenance and testing requirements. Contribute to the broader management and continuous improvements of Transport Canberra’s fleet operations. This position involves direct supervision of an excess of 70 staff dependent upon portfolio responsibility.
