Job Description

We are seeking a Director to be part of our high performing and agile legal team, providing strategic legal advice on a range of complex, interesting planning matters. You will manage a team of highly experienced planning lawyers and oversee the conduct of planning litigation for the department.We want you to be a part of a team that is making a difference. Legal Services operates as an independent professional legal practice within the department and is comprised of the General Counsel, directors, lawyers and support staff. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and work collaboratively with our internal stakeholders to achieve the department's strategic objectives.As Director, You Will Be Responsible For: Providing high quality strategic legal advice that is practical and solutions-focused in relation to: planning, environment, infrastructure and other development legislation administrative law and statutory interpretation state and local government powers and responsibilities for the delivery of major projects and infrastructure including residential, commercial and industrial projects providing strategic, practical advice for the conduct of litigation. Managing a team of highly experienced planning lawyers and overseeing the conduct of planning litigation for the department. Managing the provision of legal advice outsourced to external legal firms including Crown Law. Assisting the management of the department's whole of government legal requirements, procurement and reporting requirements. Contributing to strengthen the capabilities of managers and staff in legal issues. Assisting the General Counsel to identify and make recommendations to senior management on trends, risks and future opportunities in contemporary and emerging legal issues affecting the department. The successful applicant must be admitted, or qualify for admission, as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, with demonstrated relevant experience.
