Job Description

Australia's National Research Organisation for Women's Safety is seeking a Director of Communications & Engagement to strategically lead and direct knowledge translation and impact, media, communications, digital development, and stakeholder engagement activities. This role will be tasked with the creation and development of organisational strategies to support the reach of their knowledge base, in consultation with the senior leadership team. It will provide expert strategic advice about how to best influence evidence-based decision-making within government, practice management, services, and in the community generally. This role manages media relations, oversees external communications practices in both digital and traditional media formats, and leads initiatives to foster meaningful connections and evidence implementation with various audiences. Key attributes and experience that will need to be demonstrated include: Significant senior executive experience in communications and stakeholder engagement roles. Experience working effectively with government agencies and non-government organisations to translate knowledge, influence policy reform and implement strategies. Experience managing/working with internal media teams to ensure external messaging reflects organisational narratives. Proven expertise in one or more areas of violence against women and/or their children, including an understanding of the role and impact of gender and other inequalities in relation to that violence, or analogous policy contexts. Experience in leading and developing core organisational communication and stakeholder engagement strategies. Demonstrated interpersonal and networking skills, including proven capacity to build and maintain positive professional relationships and partnerships and capacity for negotiation and collaboration with a diversity of organisations and categories of stakeholders. Exceptional analytic and strategic thinking, written and oral communication skills. Advanced skills in digital communications and platforms. Understanding of social policy and the application of research to policy, programs, and practice. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certification is a plus.
