Director of Communications and Development The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Communications and Development to lead the school’s marketing, communications, admissions, international engagement, alumni, and philanthropy activities. This pivotal leadership role will support RGS in achieving its strategic goals, enhancing its brand, and cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders. POSITION TITLE: Director of Communications and Development DEPARTMENT: Communications and Development REPORTS TO: Headmaster BASIC FUNCTION: Marketing, communications, admissions, international engagement, alumni and philanthropy activities. POSITION DETAILS The Director of Communications and Development provides leadership and coordinates The Rockhampton Grammar School’s (RGS) student recruitment, admissions, marketing, communications, media relations, philanthropy, and alumni engagement. The Director’s primary role is to develop and implement strategy to achieve the School’s student enrolment targets and strengthen and protect the School’s brand through effective marketing, communications, and media engagement. The Director also provides strategic direction for the School’s philanthropy programme and oversees key aspects of the RGS international programme. The Director plays an important role in maintaining and enhancing the School’s relationships with close stakeholders, RGS supporters, and the wider community. Reporting directly to the Headmaster, the Director is a member of the School’s Leadership Team and provides leadership to a team of strategic communications, marketing, enrolments, and alumni professionals who undertake: Student recruitment and enrolments (domestic and international); Strategic marketing and brand management; Corporate communications and media relations; Publications; Stakeholder engagement and external sponsorship; Philanthropy and donor relations; Issues management advice. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the Communications and Development team, including the admissions team; Plan, develop, implement, review, and evaluate strategic marketing, communications, publications, alumni, and donor activities, which support the School’s student recruitment, alumni, and community engagement goals; Oversee the preparation and delivery of high-quality marketing collateral, campaigns, and stakeholder communications, including the creation and management of the School website and social media presence; Manage relationships with external agencies and suppliers for the provision of marketing, communication, and business development initiatives; Directly support the Headmaster by researching, coordinating, and implementing marketing and communication strategies and activities, including media relations, and provide strategic advice on issues and reputation management; Develop and implement the International programme strategy, including agent engagement, market diversification, ESOS compliance, and business development in areas such as study tours and new product offerings; Manage the Communications and Development budget; Any other duties as reasonably directed. REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE Demonstrated ability to strategically develop and implement comprehensive communication plans that align with organisational goals. Extensive experience in corporate communications, including media relations, stakeholder messaging, and crisis communication. Skilled in producing high-quality communications, including speeches, publications, and digital content. Proven experience in undertaking data analysis and leveraging technology to identify areas for improvement. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders. Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing teams. Alignment with the School’s values, including a commitment to excellence, character development, and community connection. REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES Tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, or other relevant discipline; Working with Children Check; Police Check (prior to commencement).
