$115,899 - $130,733 + 10% BDCP + up to 15.4% Superannuation Russell - ACT The Role Risk Assessor Assistant Directors will lead a team responsible for conducting risk analysis to ensure the export of military or strategic commodities from Australia does not prejudice Australia’s security, Defence or international relations.You will integrate subject matter expertise with rigorous risk assessments, ensuring every decision aligns with national security priorities and Australia’s international obligations. You will also support Defence industry in contributing to economic prosperity while safeguarding global security.This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. DEC supports government, industry, higher education and private individuals to meet their obligations under Australia’s export control laws. Through its operations, DEC plays a fundamental role in ensuring Australia upholds its international obligations, including through participation in multilateral export control regimes.The Assessments section within DEC safeguards national security, Defence interests and international relations by delivering robust, evidence-based technical and risk assessments, supporting adherence to international commitments and counter-proliferation goals. This may include representing Australia in international meetings.Our Ideal Candidate Assistant Directors have in-depth knowledge of legislative frameworks, government decision-making processes and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. Assistant Directors exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform leadership roles, including by managing a team of risk assessors, setting work that aligns with the strategic objectives and communicating expected outcomes.The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to exercise sound decision-making and judgement, to actively manage key stakeholder relationships, and to thrive in a high-paced environment.
