Job Description

EL1 Specialist Technical Accounting Advisor This reputable Federal Government client is seeking a highly experienced Financial Reporting Specialist to support its financial reporting team. This role requires deep technical accounting expertise and the ability to provide hands-on support in complex financial reporting processes within a Corporate Commonwealth entity managing a $40 billion budget . The successful candidate will serve as the go-to consultant for technical accounting issues, ensuring compliance and quality assurance in reporting. They will also play a critical role in liaising with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) and assisting in the preparation of financial statements, policy papers, and supporting documentation. Key Responsibilities Act as the primary technical accounting advisor , addressing complex issues as they arise. Support the financial reporting preparation process , working closely with the Director of Financial Planning and the broader team. Liaise with ANAO auditors , providing expertise on technical accounting matters. Assist in developing accounting policy papers , documentation, and reporting packs. Contribute to quality assurance processes within financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Offer recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies. Work across all levels of the organisation, translating complex accounting matters into clear insights. Extensive financial reporting experience in a senior capacity, having completed multiple reporting cycles. Strong background in technical accounting and audit , preferably with ANAO experience (either as an auditor or as an audited party). Experience within a Corporate Commonwealth entity (preferred) or State Government . Big 4 or external audit experience highly regarded. Stakeholder management expertise , including experience in negotiations and resolving technical issues. Hands-on experience with financial systems and IT audit , with the ability to understand system architecture and data flow. Strong grasp of Commonwealth financial regulations . Additional Information Open to candidates from both Commonwealth and State Government sectors (Commonwealth preferred). Big 4 or external auditing background is welcome.
