THE POSITION: Our client who is based in Canberra is seeking Emergency Medicine Registrars to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to apply medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, investigation, and treatment of patients who present to the emergency department. THE HOSPITAL: The hospital is a 250+ bed teaching facility affiliated with the Australian National University. They are one of Australia’s largest healthcare providers across Public and Private Hospitals, Residential Aged care, and Home Care. Services include intensive care, emergency, general medicine, neurology/stroke, cardiology, obstetrics & gynaecology, general surgery, urology, and mental health. The Emergency Department is also ACEM Accredited for 36 months and doctors are well supported by Emergency Physicians. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES, AND DUTIES: Practice in accordance with hospital and relevant Government Health policies and procedures, the position description, Code of Conduct, and industrial agreements. Assist in the supervision of interns and residents and provide opportunities for the extension of their clinical knowledge and skills. When rostered, act as the senior doctor in the department overnight, requesting advice and attendance of the consultant on-call as required. Maintain effective communication with patients and their relatives, hospital staff, and medical colleagues. Maintain close liaison with Emergency Medicine consultants and inpatient teams regarding patients’ medical conditions. Ensure effective handover of patients requiring ongoing care and monitoring at the end of each shift. Maintain medical records in accordance with hospital policy and requirements. Work within personal levels of expertise and seek assistance as required. When requested, attend MET calls within the hospital and grounds. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Full registration or eligible for registration as a medical practitioner with APRHA. Minimum of three years post-graduate experience relevant to the position of Emergency Medicine Registrar. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends, nights, and public holidays. Evidence of involvement in continuing medical education. Proven ability to apply theoretical knowledge and experience in determining the appropriate clinical diagnosis, investigations, and treatment of patients. Proven reliability in work within personal level of expertise and seeking assistance as needed from senior staff. Demonstrated interest in assisting interns and residents to extend their clinical skills and knowledge. Registered trainee of ACEM or another specialty college with demonstrated progression through the training program. Recent attendance (or current enrolment) in acute care courses such as ALS, APLS, EMST.
