About the Role Aquatec is seeking an Electrical Design Lead to oversee a team of engineers, designers, and drafters in delivering technical outputs such as fault current calculations, protective device selection, cable selection, and detailed design documentation. This role requires ensuring compliance with commercial needs, customer expectations, Australian and international standards, and local planning authorities. The Design Lead will be accountable for electrical engineering and design, promoting collaborative concepts within the team, and maintaining key stakeholder relationships for successful project delivery. You’ll provide leadership and technical expertise for water, wastewater, and odour control projects, with a focus on power/control systems, switchboard design, and compliance. Additionally, the Design Lead will support switchboard manufacturing, resolve design issues, and maintain strong connections with suppliers, electricians, and project managers to ensure project success and excellence. Contribute to project schedule to meet agreed timelines. Transpose and delegate work as appropriate. Coordinate and lead the engineering, design and drafting team members. Manage individual expectations and career aspirations through Position Description. Recruit and retain design resources that have the requisite skills and competencies to meet customer requirements / standards and deliver BU KPIs. Participate in and conduct necessary meetings, both internal and external, such as HAZOPS, SiDs, CHAIR design discussions, and problem resolution. Review project costings, scope of works, tender documentation, client specifications etc. Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously and ensure they are delivered on time and within budget. Maintain design process, tools and standards that meet customer and industry quality requirements and maximises the efficient re-use of previous design efforts. Create design packages and tasks for engineers. Monitor the engineers' progress on projects throughout the duration of design. Liaise with customers as required to ensure customer and end-user satisfaction. Liaise with other engineering disciplines and review designs to ensure consistency between designs. Assist the switchboard manufacturing team with technical queries. Assist the switchboard manufacturing team in resolving design issues. Liaise with suppliers regarding technical information, requesting quotations, lead times and any other required information. About You We're looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with a strong background in the water and wastewater industry. Ideally, you have proven management experience, successfully guiding teams to achieve business objectives and deliver results. Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline. Registered on the NER &/ RPEQ or working towards registration in the first 3 months of employment. 15+ years relevant experience working as an electrician or electrical engineer with a specific focus on the Australian Water Industry or an industrial background. 3+ years in switchboard manufacturing. Technical knowledge of water and wastewater process equipment, pumps, valves, chemical dosing, odour control etc. Strong knowledge of state and federal legislation relating to the water industry. Knowledge of project management (scope, time, quality and cost management). Advanced problem-solving and pragmatic approach.
