Team Overview AEMO's Planning group provides medium- and long-term projections for Australia's energy supply and system services, notably delivering the Integrated System Plan. The team's critical insights support internal and external decision-making around reliability, system security assessments, major investments, policy, and regulatory activities. This role is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in economics, commerce, finance, mathematics, or engineering, who are confident in data interpretation and drafting technical reports. Position Purpose Support key projects by delivering insightful analysis on energy markets to inform debate and drive change. Conduct modelling and analysis of electricity and/or gas markets to identify emerging trends and their implications. Build expertise in analytical tools, modelling techniques, and effective communication, while contributing to complex tasks and projects. This permanent full-time position is available across multiple office locations, including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth (or anywhere in Australia) – in addition to offering flexible work from home arrangements. What you will be doing Operate AEMO’s long-term PLEXOS market modelling process to deliver the Integrated System Plan Interpret and validate simulation outcomes Provide analytical, programming, and data management support Document results and draw key conclusions clearly Maintain quality documentation for procedure improvements Deliver assigned work on time and with quality Support continuous improvement of business processes What you will bring to the role Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Economics, Commerce, Finance, or Engineering Minimum 2 years' experience in energy market modelling Proficiency with PLEXOS or other energy market simulation software Familiarity with tools such as MS Office suite, SQL, R, VBA, Python, Power BI, and Databricks Strong quantitative analysis and problem-solving skills Knowledge of NEM, WEM, or gas markets and energy market principles Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to work on multiple projects and build relationships with stakeholders At a time when Australia is witnessing a once-in-a-century transformation of the Energy Industry, this is an incredible opportunity to be part of a bespoke, supportive, and high-performing team.
