English Language Program Team Leader Support (volunteer) Support the Community Engagement Team to coordinate the ASC's English Language Program. 23rd January, 2025 Reports to: English Language Program Team Leader and Community Participation CoordinatorMinimum commitment: 6 monthsDays and hours required per week: 5 hours a week. Days negotiable.Location: Majority of hours can be completed remotely online with some face-to-face engagement with volunteer teachers required at Newtown. Key Responsibilities: This role is Second In Charge (2IC) to the Team Leader English Language Program and provides coverage as needed of the following Team Leader tasks: Implement English Program Intake, Language Assessment and Class Allocation processes. Refer prospective students to approved external service providers as required. Build a collegial relationship with a team of volunteers and qualified English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and support them with additional ESL resources, information, and troubleshooting. Support Line Manager to facilitate regular meetings with the teaching team. Collaborate with Line Manager to collect and record student and facilitator feedback for the purposes of continuously improving the English program, including an annual survey. Contribute to English Service Map by adding information about new or changing English service providers that might be of benefit to people seeking asylum. Escalate internal referrals to Line Manager when students require support beyond their language needs. Meet regularly with Line Manager providing quality, timely updates. Promptly raise any concerns pertaining to client or teacher welfare with Line Manager. Other as reasonably requested by the Line Manager. Preferred Requirements: Experience in working with people from various backgrounds and cultures. Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers. Strong organisational and time management skills. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Experience in the Education sector, with a strong understanding of the needs of adult and second language learners. Functional IT skills such as use of email and word processing. Ability to lead a group of volunteers, providing support and guidance as needed. Ability to adhere to policies in relation to code of conduct, boundaries, and confidentiality. Support a child-safe organisation by undertaking screening for suitability to work with children and vulnerable people and to comply with relevant state/territory legislative requirements.
