Job Description

Keolis Downer (KD) is a leading private provider of multimodal public transport in Australia, working collaboratively with State Governments to develop transport solutions that are tailored for all passengers, regardless of their background. In Adelaide, KD partnered with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport in early 2021 with the aim of delivering revitalised passenger train services to the local community and increasing public transport patronage across South Australia. Following recent business changes, KD will take on the critical role of custodian of the local network over the next decade, with a focus on asset management and maintenance . In the shorter term, KD will continue to focus on the provision of customer experience and security services for the next two years, until 2027. We are currently seeking an Environment and Sustainability Officer who will provide support and assistance to Keolis Downer Adelaide (KDA) work groups, including senior management, in improving environmental and sustainability practices across the Adelaide Metropolitan Passenger Rail Network (AMPRN). This role involves helping to ensure that activities align with the Environment and Sustainability Policy, Environment and Sustainability Management Plan (ESMP), and related sub-plans, such as the Emissions Reduction Plan and Waste Management Plan, while supporting KDA’s sustainability initiatives to contribute to the SA Government’s net-zero targets. You will: Plan and effectively deliver sustainability initiatives, including environmental, social, economic and resource efficiency initiatives. Undertake research and prepare information for the development of projects, plans, procedures, policies and reports. Provide technical advice relating to environmental activities. Deliver and support sustainability audit and inspection program. Support the business with environmental and sustainability issues, including community complaints, as they arise and proposing solutions. Promote environment and sustainability awareness and the development of a positive culture. Manage and maintain effective positive relationships with environmental regulators, Infrastructure Sustainability Council, Public Transport South Australia (PTSA) and Environment and Sustainability representatives from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) as well as other key internal and external stakeholders. About you Understanding of ISO 14001 and the Environmental Protection Act 1993 Act and other legislation as relevant to the role. Demonstrated experience in developing Environmental & Sustainability Management Plans, including the development of processes, systems and procedures that support business activities and improve sustainability outcomes. Experience in the management of relationships with environmental regulators, Infrastructure Sustainability Council and other key stakeholders. Proven ability to think logically, comprehend technical matters and find creative solutions to problems. Experience in the preparation of environmental and sustainability performance reports to meet contractual, legislative and company requirements including National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGERs). Knowledge and understanding of the Commonwealth's new Climate Disclosure Requirements. Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science/ Environmental Engineering/ Environmental Management or similar.
