Position Overview Environmental Education Interns at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center provide environmental and conservation education through a diverse range of engaging learning experiences aligned with the Environmental Engagement Department’s purpose of facilitating individuals discovering their role and responsibilities in the natural world. Interns will gain experience in: Providing interpretative, hands-on experiences related to conservation, nature, and the environment. Utilizing informal education methods to educate a wide range of audiences including park visitors, families, scout groups, and school groups. Leading educational activities in a variety of settings including overnight programs, nature discovery areas, virtual, and traditional classrooms. Discovering and enhancing an informal, interpretive education skillset. Additionally, interns are trained on conducting Guided Tours that explore the Gosdin Scenic Drive and Jim Jackson Intensive Management Area as well as assisting with providing husbandry for animals at Animal Discoveries. Intern Duties and Responsibilities Help develop and present education programs and special events. Interpret local and exotic flora and fauna for guests. Lead educational hikes and tours of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Host groups on-site for both day trips and overnight trips. Assist with virtual and in-person outreach programs. Serve as a Fossil Rim representative during off-site events. Assist with ambassador animal husbandry and handling. Ensure compliance with Fossil Rim’s mission and vision. Qualifications: Experience working with children, the public, or in an educational setting is required. An undergraduate degree in biology, environmental science, education, or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, be able to work in all weather conditions, and be willing to work an atypical schedule (including nights and weekends). Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. International applicants must have a J1 or B1 visa before arrival. Fossil Rim cannot sponsor or assist with the visa process. Stipend/Housing: $300/month stipend. Free onsite housing in a shared living environment is mandatory during your internship.
