Temporary (one year) parental leave backfill position until 27 February 2026, part-time 32 hours per week (0.84 Equivalent Full Time) Join a motivated and experienced team Personal and professional development opportunities Why you'll love the role: As our Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) Adviser you'll drive sustainable excellence, helping to elevate the technical capacity of Development Planning to integrate environmentally sustainable development into transformative planning outcomes. You'll be working in a diverse team that aligns urban planning policy with urban planning delivery and incorporates Banyule’s Statutory Planning Team including subdivision and planning enforcement. What you'll do: Lead Sustainable Practices: Drive the implementation of environmentally sustainable development in planning outcomes, contributing to Banyule's Community Climate Action Plan. Develop and Train: Enhance the technical capacity of the Development Planning team through training programs, spot audits, and compliance. Advocacy and Representation: Represent Banyule in forums and committees, advocating for sustainable development practices and policies. What we are looking for (skills, experience and certificates): Tertiary qualifications in one or more of the following areas: environmental engineering, environmental science, sustainable design or allied disciplines. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the development and implementation of environmental strategies, policies and programs including sustainable design and development. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in application of built environment legislation, guidelines and rating tools. Demonstrated understanding of the principles and practices of integrated planning for environmental, social and economic development including ability to provide built form design advice for capital works projects and development applications. Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to present to and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. An ability to identify and assess the correct implementation of ESD design outcomes through on site inspections and/or supporting documentation. An ability to display empathy and self-awareness and work with others to achieve a mutually agreeable outcome.
