The Opportunity MidCoast Council is looking for a full-time Executive Manager – Sustainable Development based in Taree, New South Wales . Reporting to the Director of Liveable Communities, this leadership role oversees the Sustainable Development Group, managing a diverse team of 135 professionals across key departments. You will drive strategic initiatives to enhance sustainable development, streamline processes, and foster community engagement. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to: Leading the planning and execution of strategic initiatives to enhance housing delivery and drive sustainable development Advocating for policies that support sustainable growth and improved housing accessibility Overseeing development assessment, building certification, customer experience, environmental health, natural systems, and regulatory services Implementing the Housing Barriers Report and developing solutions to improve housing supply Streamlining development application processing to enhance efficiency and regulatory compliance Managing conservation efforts, ecosystem strategies, and sustainability initiatives Representing the Council in various forums, advocating for sustainable planning policies Providing high-level leadership to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and service excellence Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to drive community-driven initiatives Ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements across all development functions Leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary team, promoting professional growth and high performance Contributing to the Council’s strategic planning as part of the Senior Leadership and Extended Management Executive teams What you'll bring To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Town Planning or a relevant discipline . A minimum of Senior Manager level experience in development assessment will also be essential . Additionally, demonstrated knowledge of professional and legislative requirements relevant to the role will be crucial.
