We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fabrication Department Manager with a strong background in building and construction to join our team. The Fabrication Department Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing our metal fabrication operations, ensuring the production of top-notch metal components for our construction projects. The ideal candidate will specialise in architectural aluminium fabricating and have a proven track record of managing fabrication teams, implementing quality control processes, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Workshop Operations: Oversee day-to-day operations of metal workshop & on-site installations, ensuring smooth and efficient production processes. Resource Allocation: Allocate resources, including manpower, machinery, and materials, to meet production targets and project requirements. Team Leadership: Lead, train, motivate a team of metalworkers, welders, installers and other fabrication staff to achieve high-quality productivity. Quality Control: Implement and enforce strict quality control measures to ensure all metal products meet established standards and specifications. Production Scheduling: Develop and manage production schedules, optimizing workflow to meet deadlines and customer requirements. Inventory Management: Maintain adequate inventory levels of raw materials and supplies, coordinating with procurement to ensure timely replenishment. Equipment Maintenance: Schedule and oversee regular maintenance and repair of workshop equipment and machinery to minimize downtime. Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and promote a culture of workplace safety to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with regulations. Cost Management: Monitor and control workshop expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities and optimizing resource utilization. Client Communication: Liaise with clients to understand project specifications, provide updates on project progress, and address any concerns or changes. Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure seamless integration of workshop activities with project timelines. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production data, quality reports, and inventory levels, and prepare reports for management as needed. Problem Solving: Identify and resolve production issues and challenges in a timely manner to maintain project schedules. Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities to enhance workshop efficiency, productivity, and quality through process optimization and innovation. Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms for the procurement of materials and services. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all workshop activities adhere to relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations. Budgeting: Assist in the preparation of workshop budgets and cost estimates for projects. Team Development: Mentor and provide training to team members, fostering their professional growth and skill development. Qualifications: Lean and 5s certification an advantage Attributes: Solid negotiation skills and experience. Strong knowledge of metal fabrication techniques, equipment, and materials. Excellent leadership and communication skills. Proficient in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
