Field Project Engineer

Job Description

This role is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and relocation of Optus infrastructure. The Project Engineer (PE) will plan and oversee capital projects to expand Optus' telecommunications infrastructure across the Core and Customer Access Networks. Additionally, the PE will manage the maintenance and relocation of existing infrastructure in response to network rearrangements or requests from external utilities. The role also includes accountability for cost recovery related to the relocation of Optus assets initiated by third parties. Working closely with the Outside Plant Manager, Senior Project Engineers, and fellow Project Engineers, the PE will contribute to developing a highly reliable and efficient network. The role is critical in ensuring the timely delivery of engineering projects while maintaining high standards of quality and cost-effectiveness. The PE will focus on meeting customer needs and ensuring a positive customer experience. Your day to day will consist of... Manage projects associated with infrastructure build and maintenance/relocation such as EXCH, FAN, RAN, HUBS, GSM and CAN. Contribute to key projects and meet project deadlines. Manage external contractors in compliance with Optus’ OH&S policy and environmental management plan. Achieve all project schedules, KPIs and accountabilities whilst meeting operational and budgetary requirements. Liaise with utilities, local councils, government departments and building managers for facility access or space negotiation. Work closely with sales, design and other delivery staff to ensure all milestones and engineering projects are completed on time and efficiently. Perform quality inspections on all works carried out by contractors and ensure company policies and procedures are followed. What makes you a great fit for the role? Tertiary, Trade Certificate or TAFE qualification in at least one of the following fields: Telecommunications, Electrical or Civil. Current Drivers Licence. Recent telecommunications experience in internal and external plant, design and construction activities. Knowledge of optical fibre delivery methods, installation practices and route selection. Proven experience in a commercial environment overseeing contractors. Understands financial processes such as budgets and project cost analysis. Knowledge of the relevant processes associated with Internal and External infrastructure deployment in the telecommunications environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
