Queensland Fire Department Status: Permanent Flexible Full-time Classification: FCS Fortnightly Salary: $4,773.65 - $5,274.48 Annual Salary: $124,541.00 - $137,607.00 Division: State Operations Location: Multiple (Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Toowoomba) Closing Date: Midnight, 3 March 2025 About Us: The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness, and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which works together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state. The QFD is an organisation that is focused on reframing the department’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building our cultural capability. Purpose of the role: The role of Fire Communications Supervisor contributes to the operational areas of the QFD to provide high-quality preventative and responsive services in accordance with Government strategies and community expectations. The Fire Communications Supervisor is an integral part of the Fire Communications Centre and assists and promotes a teamwork approach. The position of Fire Communications Supervisor is required to support the Fire Communications Manager in managing shifts in accordance with QFD policies, procedures, and practices including the Code of Conduct. They are also responsible for managing a QFD functional area such as operations management, community safety, professional development, or operations business management in accordance with QFD strategic and operational plans. Key requirements: Mandatory Requirements: Eligible to apply for, or hold a current Blue Card; Australian Citizenship, New Zealand Citizenship or Australian Resident Status; Current holder of Certificate III in Public Safety (Emergency Communications Centre Operations); and Ability to successfully complete training programs of the ‘Communications Training and Professional Development Program (CTPDP) at the prescribed level. Desirable Requirements: Previous experience in emergency service related operational communications centre. Typing speed of 45 wpm with 95% accuracy. Have or ability to obtain Apply First Aid and CPR Certificates. Your key accountabilities: Responsibilities: Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in providing key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: Manage and participate in all aspects of shift operations of the Fire Communications Centre to facilitate effective dispatch of resources. Provide leadership and guidance to Communications Officers. Develop Communication Officers capability through coaching, mentoring, and training. Identify standby requirements and liaise with operational staff to reduce gaps in coverage. Notify Senior Operational staff of incidents and liaise with media officers in accordance with policies and procedures. Contribute to identification of improvements/amendments to policy, systems, and procedures. Allocate, undertake, and review portfolio activities of the team. Identify technical faults and liaise with the State Communications Support unit in relation to reporting, maintaining, and updating communications technology. Prepare routine and specific reports for Senior Operational staff and the regional Fire Communications Manager. Participate in state and regional project teams to contribute to the development of operational and administrative functions. Support and assist the Fire Communications Manager with operational management of the Centre. Comply with responsibilities of Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
